The Kamusi Project currently includes the following dictionaries:

• Swahili-English Dictionary
• Swahili Specialized Vocabularies
• Russian-Swahili-Russian Dictionaries (compiled by Dmitri Polikanov)

You can search, browse, download, and help edit the English-Swahili and Swahili-English Dictionaries. You can find a list of original text sources for many of our Swahili example sentences here.

To search the English-Swahili and Swahili-English Dictionaries, please use the search box on the left. Make sure to select the correct language direction before submitting your query. You can include a * character (asterisk) for wildcard searches.

You can also download the dictionaries as text files. You can download the entire English-Swahili or Swahili-English Dictionaies as ZIP files, as ordinary text files, or one letter at a time. We recommend that you click your right mouse button and choose save target as (Internet Explorer) or save link as (Firefox) in order to save these files to your hard drive.

We also invite you to use our unique Edit Engine help edit the dictionaries. When you search or browse the dictionaries, your entries will be returned as links to the Edit Engine. By clicking on those links and registering as a participating editor, you can suggest changes and additions to the Kamusi Project.
